Cats

A couple neighborhood cats have adopted my porch as their place to hang. I've been putting out cool water for them on these hot days. I've thought of giving them a treat, but I haven't gotten any cat treats yet. I like that they keep down the mice population, but I was sad to see one of the cats chasing a bird yesterday. Awwww, that's nice that you're helping out the local kitties.

It can be hard when cats hunt where you can see them.

You have limited influence over cats who don't live with you, but my mother's cats have always left birds alone because she has always made it clear that she doesn't want the birds chased. When we had a mouse problem, she praised the cat if he chased mice but showed disapproval when he chased birds. He's had two lapses in his lifetime, but mostly is safe to leave out with birds. He will even stop other cats from chasing them.
