Questions. You have them, I have answers for them. I have some theories and headcanon concerning Bat and here is where you ask me about him. So go ahead, comment and ask away.
I think, for the most part, he takes great enjoyment in his demon form. It's a new kind of fun. However, there's a definite enjoyment and pride in his skill with knives. That's one reason that he's always got one out, even when he knows that he's going to be transforming in a moment. I have a feeling, when dealing with lesser threats, he might very well take the chance to enjoy fighting without his demon form, relying entirely on his knives.
Bat has.....an amazing amount of issues concerning his leaders. He backstabs two of them, one out of resentment/jealousy and the other he planned it from the beginning. However, I get the distinct impression Varin was probably closer to the best kind of leader for him. He takes no crap and keeps Bat in line, with threat and force as necessary. And I notice very distinctly that there's none of the resentment or anger that I expected to see as soon as Varin's back was turned. I don't think it's something he himself would know he wants, but he responds to it very differently than with any other leader.
He could, certainly. He was the second-in-command, so it's likely he'd been in charge more than once. So he has experience, and can certainly handle being in charge. On the other hand, I don't think that he would choose to be a leader beyond that. He prefers letting someone else be the figurehead and handle the big issues, while he supports (read: manipulates) from behind the throne.

And/or could he ever be a leader himself? Would he want to be?
