HOLY COW

I was in a van cab the other night, and the cabbie and I were listening to this radio program about diets. Apparently milk is bad, bad, bad for you!?!?!? Instead of being an excellent source of calcium like those celebrity milk mustache commercials suggest, a high milk intake can actually increase one's risk of osteoperosis, heart disease, ( Read more... )

don't worry steph, the only thing that saved me from drinking litres of milk per day these days is my turning lactose intolerant. milk leeching calcium from your bones is pretty scary considering they keep telling you to drink it to replace calcium....

but if you're serious about dropping the carnivorous thing come see kristyn and her wealth of info. she turned me from a steak eating rotten colon to a tofu craver.

i don't think the problem is with milk in and of itself. I think its more so because of how we process the milk before we drink and what we do to the cows to make them produce it for mass consumption. Pure milk tastes A LOT different and before chemicals are introduced into it, is probably quite beneficial (though I don't know how drinkable, taste wise for human consumption.) Meat consumption, as well, isn't bad in and of itself either. Again, it's related to over eating it (which we do---really you don't need more than five ounces of meat/protein a day, but when you go to a restaurant, usually the smallest steaks are 8 ounces) and again, what we put into the animals themselves before we consume it. if you owned your own farm where you were in total control of what goes in and out of the animals (and plants--those are dangerous for our health for the very same reasons meat is)you would have total guarantee of a truely healthy diet. don't worry, we're all going to die of the same preservatives.

yuck, I wouldn't want to own a farm. waking up early, tending to animals all day long and then eating wild game.
the answer to this would be nine.

I have perfected my red rose tea, and it definitly includes milk. I will not drink it any other way even if I discovered that milk *was* poison. I will however try to refrain from eating cereal several times per day and drinking big ol glasses of the stuff to wash down all those portuguese pastries I like.
I need to do some more research.

The dairy industry successfully lobbied the government to make it into it's own food group. There is no other mammal that drinks milk after the infant stage and the majority of people around the globe are lactose intolerant (I believe it's 70%).

World aid groups have a nasty habit of sending powdered milk to african nations, where 90% of children are lactose intolerant. Lot of good that does them.

Symptoms of milder forms of lactose intolerance includes: acne, sinus/chest congestion, stomachaches and other maladies we attribute to various other things...

I am convinced. If only I could enjoy soy milk, then I would give the stuff up all together...but for now it's all about serious reduction.

I´m a sucker for yogurt personally. Especially here where they´ve found some magical way of making fat free yogurt that still tastes really creamy and with yummy flavours like Plum, Coconut-Muesli and Green tea with Mandarin.
