Top 10 Movies for a Good Cry

Mar 29, 2008 22:35

I watched Fried Green Tomatoes tonight, and it made me think that maybe it would be entertaining to make a list of the top 10 movies that make me cry. Some in my list are sad-cry movies, and some are happy/touching-cries. See my comments for my list, and by all means, feel free to share your own!

I was waiting for you to mention High Art. I always cry when I watch that last part. And I always end up saying "I hate this movie!" (I say that at the end of every sad movie I love, actually!)

I also cry when I watch The Color Purple.

Aimee and Jaguar.

Oh my gosh, I cried so much when I watched The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc (Besson's version). I also ended it with saying "I hate this movie!" and sobbing for a while.

Dead Poets Society.

American History X.

The Iron Giant.

Voces Inocentes.

Dancer In The Dark would definitely be #1 for me.

I thought about mentioning High Art, actually, but something about that movie frustrates me. I think it's too overwrought, in a way, like it's trying too hard to be edgy. I find also that most queer films are tragic in the end, or at least they were ten years ago (by now there are some more with happy endings), so I'm almost more annoyed than sad when Ally Sheedy's character dies. All that said, I admit that I almost always watch it when I happen upon it on tv, though, because it is one pretty, pretty movie to look at.

I'm totally with you with THE LION KING. While many many movies made me cry the first time one "movie" that always makes me cry all happy style at the end is...(don't laugh at me) Riverdance. Seriously when they all get together and dance it makes me so damn happy!

Never saw Dancer in the Dark cause it looked way too cheery for my taste.

I generally don't watch sad movies, or at least ones made after 1960.
