my brother and father asleep on the couch with the sound of tv football in the background. my dad snores lightly. my brother rolls over and catches me looking at him.

"what?"
"just looking."
"why?"
"no reason."

it's sunday afternoon.

some nights i spend cutting up newspapers and watching my cat kick up ash from the top of the bookshelf,
