I was just about to go to bed, and I was trying to work on some art, on my Toshiba Portege M205-S810, and suddenly from nowhere, a crack just shot down through the middle of my 12.1 SXGA+ LCD display. I am rather freaked out about this, as I don't have a clue what to do about it, it looks like it is just running through the plastic tablet screen ( Read more... )

thank goodness for online video tutorials. bear_brown August 26 2004, 05:10:07 UTC
OK, I found a video tutorial, that showed how to romove the LCD for shipping, if repairs were needed, I have discovered, that my LCD is just fine, it was only the faceplate, that cracked, the faceplate is two sections, the frame, and the plastic writeing screen, held in place by a seal. I am hopeing these wont be hard to get, I should be able to do the work myself, Just need help finding the parts. but wait, I just discovered the part # on the inside of the frame, This might help...I'll let you all know in a minute. Nope, No matter which parts sites I try, and which set of Numbers on the inside of the coverplate I try give me waht I am looking for. GRR. I am tired as all hell now. It's a little after 5 am I have tried everything I could think of. Any suggestions, or help would be greatly appreciated

call their support number, I remember when you got this, if you're lucky it'll still be under warrenty. If not, they'll have a way for you to buy a replacement. You're lucky it's not the lcd, those usually cost as much as the laptop..

especially if you got the product protection plan, or whatever they call it there, they might just hand you a new one off the shelf.

voiding warranty chaosqueen August 26 2004, 13:50:45 UTC
I have worked at numerous technical locations, and one thing is common at all of them, you take apart the machine, or try to fix it yourself, it voids the warranty, why because they can't verify what you have done. nor wetehr any problems occuring are caused by your working on the machine or by machine being defective.

(sigh) so yeah keep it together until the deny you. and don't mention that you took the screen off.
