Actually, you aren't insured if the road is closed. You probably aren't insured if the road is open if the insurance company decides it. You aren't insured on the whim of the insurance company no matter how much you have paid for the policy or how closely you examine the small print and know that you are acually covered. It's not criminal, it's civil law which means if they decide not pay out, for whatever reason, it's up to you to take them through the courts for years and years and at great expense in order to get what you paid for.

I didn't think I would be covered for driving there, that was one reason that I turned back, that and the 100m drop on the left hand side!
You're right, insurance companies can get them selves out of anything. I've been lucky and my experiences with the companies I have dealt with have been generally good so far.
The car needs a wash, and a new door mirror and the dent fixed in the door where it was kicked but other than that I am very happy with it!
