[Dreams of this sort were always horrible. Sephiroth could relate; he had his share of bloody memories.]

Easy, easy. Nothing but a dream. [Or possibly a recollection?]

[It's a moment before Basch responds. He's taken the time to compose himself a bit, to deal with the shocking image of seeing himself stabbing the king, instead of his brother.]

A dream. [He repeats.] A nightmare of a past I'd sooner forget.

[Oh, Sephiroth knows it. He can totally sympathize.]

This place seems to enjoy bringing out such horrors from our minds. And parading them before all watching eyes.

[A soft sigh.]

It is...trying, at best.

Such horrors should not be witnessed. My apologies to you for having seen it.

[Balthier frowned to himself as he watched the scene unfold. He, too, had relived grisly scenes from the past in his dreams, and he knew just how hard this particular scene must have struck Basch.]

Captain. Are you alright?

[Balthier was one of the last people he wanted to see this dream. It's a moment before the Captain speaks up.]

Aye. I am fine. [Which is an outright lie, but everyone knows Basch would say that he was fine to save face and worry about it later.]

[And yet who but Balthier would understand so well, friend?]

I expected no less. [Of course he sees through the lie, but he has come close to perfecting the art of having a conversation without saying what one truly means. At the very least, he's well-practiced.]

Those who matter most know that was not the way of things.
