"And, since nobody is fooled into thinking that one's genuine appearance is the made-up state, is it just the process, the work involved, the acknowledgement that you aren't okay without some kind of chemical enhancement, that is valued by the people who care about such things ( ... )

I wish you'd write a good, ranty blog about it. Your reply was a lot more to the point than my silly little reflections ( ... )

I think the correct response for the individual lies in what they're trying to do.

Are you putting makeup on for other people? Then HELL no. Never let anyone else dictate who you are and what you do.

Are you putting makeup on for yourself? Is it like....a new pair of shoes makes me feel a little better? *I* feel that I look better with a little bit of enhancement? Then yes, do it. Life is too short not to feel good about yourself. I wouldn't become a slave to it. I'd do it when you need the boost. Like crack or crystal meth. :)

I worked in a band with a guy who wore makeup all the time. I have overheard women saying that they didn't want to date a guy that wore more makeup than they did.

As a photographer I like to see women wear makeup. You know from theatre that light can wash out features and you have to bring them back. I would say, from the one new pic you have, that you're not applying it with a paint roller. It seems to enhance your look. If you're comfortable with it, why not?

Actually, I haven't been wearing any makeup at all. You raise a very good point: if I were to make a stab at it, it would be because I wanted to play with my face. Kind of like when I get some sort of fancy hair thing to keep my hair off my face; if it looks good to me, I'm satisfied.

Eddie Izzard, one of my favorite comedians, is not comfortable without makeup. I think if he stayed at home just slopping around the house, he'd at least highlight his cheekbones. The perfect use for makeup.

I didn't have makeup on in that new pic! Not in any of them! Sometimes the upstairs neighbors have their heat on too high and we get the backwash down here. So I get rosy really easily. Looks sorta like makeup, now that you mention it.

Hmmm... you're anonymous, and yet you know I used to do drugs and work in theater. Something tells me we have a stealthy pal here. If you're more comfortable hiding in a nest of pixels, that's okay. I won't prod too much.
