Shella is one of my favorite books. I'm always recommending it too, but people don't have to go searching in libraries or used bookstores to find a copy. All of Andrew Vachss' 20+ books are in print, and Vintage puts out inexpensive paperback versions of all of them. I like the cover art a lot:
I know, I've seen it recently at some bookstore or other, and there's always Amazon, but most of my friends are diehard cheapskates, and I really, really want to share Shella with whoever I can get to read it, without compromising my personal copy. I try not to loan books. I have a friend who buys multiple copies of his favorite books just so he can hand them out and not worry about losing his copy. I may do that, too, someday. But for now, let 'em look for used, cheap or free reads.
