Yeah, the infamous turn-yourself-white-with-our-miracle-rub ads. "美白" they call it, which literally means "beautiful white". If you flip through any Korean, Japanese, or Chinese women's magazines, you will find at least two or three of these full-page ads.

I actually knew someone who would refuse to wear shorts and short sleeves shirts in summer for fear of her skin "turning black" (變黑). Personally I think there are many racist cultural issues intertwined in this, but than again, that's another long spiny topic in itself...
