I spent the night before last in the hostel having drinks with the Scots and Irish again. I think they may be a tad homophobic? They only made one gay crack but they're so friendly it's too tough to tell what they might think about it. Either way, I haven't come out to them because they haven't asked any questions where I could give a casual answer

Don't get discouraged. Your discoveries may not be as apparent to you right now. I suspect they will become clearer when eventually highlighted against a familiar background.

Finding oneself through travel

Dear Bearsx3,

Your narrative shows you are a more self-aware traveler than most so what you seem to seek is not finding yourself now but knowing yourself in the future. Can one really find one's life's calling through far flung journeys? I and my friends have tried no shortage of times. I always end up with the most banal conclusions about importance of love, friends, and Western plumbing.
