Since I know you do not listen to music past 1999, I will include only songs past that period of time, so that your judgment is ill-informed. 1. Daylight by Matt & Kim 2. Wanderlust by Flogging Molly 3. Motown Never Sounded So Good by Less than Jake 4. Nine in the Afternoon by Panic! At the disco! 5. Swing, Swing by All American Rejects
1. I Was Made For Sunny Days--The Weepies 2. Fireflies--Owl City 3. Chariot--Gavin DeGraw 4. Marching Bands of Manhattan--Death Cab for Cutie 5. Orange Sky--Alexi Murdoch
My first instinct was to look at my collection o' tunes and find the first 5 songs with 'summer' or some variation thereof in the title, but NO WAY, that's the chump's way out. Challenge accepted!
Jon & Roy - What I Need This is all... acoustic indie reggae. WHAT AN INTRIGUING MIX! I mean, there's some drums going on, but never mind that. What this song does is make me want to sit on a couch in someone's basement and drink beer. That's a summertime feeling.
Elvis Perkins - Hey If I was in a summer-y montage, I'd like for this song to be its soundtrack. You know, as I stood in sunflower fields, or did my laundry at a laundromat, or went to the beach, or had lunch with cute boys at small diners.
Noah and the Whale - 5 Years Time There's whistling. Done.
Kurt Vile - Freeway This is a perfect on-the-road, wind-in-your-hair song.
Ben Kweller - Sundress Basically, 'sun' is right there in the title.
I knew I knew that noah and the whale song from somewhere. It was in a Saturn commercial.
My montage song would be "Where do the Days go" by the Flashing lights. that song was played at every bonfire I went to all four years of college. It's a perfect summer nights song. This Elvis Perkins song is GOOD.
I can't BELIEVE nobody has said "Summertime" by DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince.
SERIOUSLY?!?! That is only THE BEST SUMMER SONG OF ALL TIME. OF ALL TIME. /Kanye reference that won't get old, no it won't, shut up
Others...hmmm...in no particular order:
- Damn It Feels Good to Be a Gangsta, Geto Boys (because it's impossible not to swagger down the street listening to this, and summertime needs -- requires -- a swagger) - All Mixed Up, 311 (because I first discovered them during my 15th summer of life, and this song was a big part of it) - Ban the Tube Top, Reel Big Fish (because we really should) - Black Hole Sun, Soundgarden (awesome video)
I'm in the small minority of people who think that office space is just okay, so Damn it feels good to be a gangsta is just okay too.
Dude, I don't care what anyone says, that 311 song is great. Also, nice call on ban the tube top. see the above comment in which i talk about how my late teens were spent in a fog bank of ska-core. I'll even give chris the permission to scan the pciture of me fronting a ska band circa '97. we were called "the flaming grasshoppers," look for us to get back together when we have our collective mid-life crisis; next time I'm playing bass AND singing.
one more thing: do you think bud selig will let derek jeter use rollerblades to get to a ball deep in the hole? oh wait, how could he jump throw and still two hop it?
I really shouldn't be knocking derek jeter's defensive ability *cough* he's a butcher *cough*, when my shortstop both is Jhonny Peralta, and is not Derek Jeter, but I can't help myself.

There's nothing embarrassing about any of these songs. Even to my decidedly snobbish tastes.
