Troubled Blood by Robert Galbraith (J.K. Rowling) [Cormoran Strike 5], 1000pp

"it is just so nice to spend time with these characters." Yes! Even if the mystery was mediocre, which it never is, these books would still be so good because Robin and Strike are so great.

Haha, that's a great way of putting it! I'm really happy to know that you enjoyed the book, and looking forward to what you think of subsequent ones (this is definitely a series where I love individual books to various degrees, but the series really kind of builds between them, although it does it slowly enough that it took me, like, 8 books to go from just liking individual titles to being obsessed with the series as a whole, so I'm always really, really curious to see how people progress through it).

even though it seems a bit simplistic of everyone in the House sharing specific characteristics but that's probably nurture

Nurture/cultural norms is definitely a big part of it, but there is also some additional information that Vlad learns in a later book.

I'm still not sure why a jhereg is needed as a familiarI'm not sure how much explanation you want for any such things (so definitely let me know if it's "none", and I'll just let you discover/surmise on your own -- I'm good ( ... )
