What're you going to do to their cars?

Well, if they want to play rough, I can ram their frames into walls as well as the next guy. And if they start pulling out any funny tricks like shooting at me or something weird like that, I have a few of my own up my sleeve.

It was mostly a joke, but you seemed deadly serious, so I figured I'd answer that.

I was. That car looks like it'd break if it rammed anything.

Oh, you're worried about me. I appreciate the sentiment, but we both know I'm not so destructible.

In seriousness, though, the frame is reinforced with all kinds of metals and organic materials. It won't break until you crash it thoroughly.

I don't worry. It just didn't make sense, that's all.

What do you mean, crash it thoroughly?

As in, unless it either crashes hard enough to tumble off the side of the course or a heavy object strikes it at high speed, it won't break that much. Dents and dings, but no missing parts unless the situation is extreme. I won't be taking into the monster truck rally, of course, but it'll last a high-impact circuit race.

It's light, though. Good for speed, bad for other people being able to nudge it around. You can work with that, though, and it can still pack a punch if someone decides I need to head into the nearest wall.

Sounds like you've raced a lot.

I've done a whole lot of things I haven't really done.

It's more than I've built a lot of things, and crashed a lot of things, really. Everything from robots to spaceships.

Right. The parts of you that aren't you.

... You can build spaceships but you can't get out of this place?

Precisely.

Yes, yes, one doesn't have to rub things in. I wish I could, but I've seen what the deities can do -- I was just turned into a cat, even -- and now is not the time for me to try to leave. There are...things I must do first. Besides, I rather like it here.

If an airship with a full beam cannon loadout couldn't break the barrier, there is a slight problem with me trying to use a spaceship to leave. I'll have to try some kind of hyperspace core, see if I can jump out if I really want to leave.

Why can't you teleport away?

It wasn't just you, you know. I don't think the deities pay that much attention to who gets cursed.

The corridors are blocked. Either they don't go anywhere or they end up leading me back into the City.

My point wasn't that it happened to me in particular -- my point was that it could happen to me at all. Anyone who can turn me into a cat requires some serious thought before I start challenging them.

Corridors?

You're going to challenge them?

What I use to get around.

Are you? Trying to get out is essentially doing so, yes?

Oh, the portals. Your...creative uses of them are impressive. I wonder what happens when you close them on a human's arm.

I didn't really think about it.

They'd probably lose the arm. Not that it matters - a lot of people in the City can heal.

Don't want to go home, boy?
