A few weeks after planting my vegetable seeds and plants, I have discovered that all the neighborhood cats (or at least four) are sneaking into our backyard, having a roll in our catnip, then pooping in my garden. Any ideas on how to make them stop? I'm considering removing or pruning the living daylights out of the catnip and/or making a little ( Read more... )

No cat...yet (maybe by the end of summer), but the people before us had one and planted two big ol' catnip plants. Darn!

I just heard this idea recently to keep cats away from catnip - lay rose bush trimmings (thorny branches) across the plants. (or blackberry brambles maybe?) You could also scatter them on the ground near your veggies so when they dig - well you know, they get an ouchy. I keep meaning to try it because we have all sorts of critters stomping around in our new garden beds. Sort of mean, but after gardening for 5 years, even an animal lover like myself starts to truly hate other people's cats. Personally, I would get rid of the catnip too.
