I've been thinking on and off for the past few years about getting dreads (and, well, getting a faux-hawk, but dreads are better suited to curly hair). I was contemplating a new tattoo for my 60th birthday in October, but now I am inspired to do dreads instead!!!! yikes

Awesome. Glad you went for it. They're gonna look great as they settle in.

Does your friend lishd have any strategies/opinions about dreading TOTALLY STRAIGHT hair? Sometime in the next couple years I'd like to grow my hair out (again) and dread. Stay-at-home dads have no one to impress, right?

Check out her hair page. I think they'd be fine to start, but might be a bit higher maintenance and take a bit longer to harden up. :]

Cool. I'll take a look. I have a friend (with straight hair) who did dreads just after high school. He did them on his own, and kinda half-assed it, so they took a few YEARS to look decent. When my time comes I'd like to avoid that if possible. Oh, to have wavey hair!
