Icons of Silent Film

In a time when explosions and gratuitous sex are the norm in cinema, I decided to take a look back at two icons of the silent film era.

Rudolph Valentino

Uh oh, Valentino has made another conquest! I feel like such a shallow, shallow woman. ;) That famous profile, his entrancing gaze...what woman would not want to be in his embrace, if only for a moment? Watch the video below and transport yourself. At 1:36, be prepared to swoon as Valentino invites you into his world.

Charlie Chaplin

Looking up Valentino automatically made me think of Charlie Chaplin, whom I grew interested in when I was in high school. His tramp character is simply iconic, and made a fearful nation laugh when the world was at war. He definitely had a sketchy personal life, but his film legacy is unmatched. The ending of City Lights is one of the most moving pieces of film I've ever seen. His tramp character, who is in love with a blind woman, encounters her after she regains her sight. She doesn't recognize him until... It's cinema at its finest.
