yes!
you can clip simply little humphrie's claws, or you can get caps(or tips, i can't remember) as you mentioned. i am not sure how much it costs, but you should definitely talk to your vet about alternatives, i am sure he/she will give you more options.

i've clipped him before and he doesn't like it but i just have to catch him in a very relaxed mood and in between clips i have to be extra attentive.
i'm hopefully going to get my arse outta bed in time to go to the vet tomorrow and figure out the alternatives--so thanks!

maybe if you brush him before you clip his claws it will calm him down a little.

Trim them. I didn't get Psi or Zeus declawed because I think it's inhumane should they ever get loose and not have defences to protect themselves.

I bought a pet clipper, but it sucked, so now I just use my nail clipper and it works fine. Just don't cut past the red vein in their nail or they'll bleed.

Also-- at 4 months old-- Humphrie should be disciplined not to jump on people and claw them. Old enough to understand.

yeah, i just can't bring myself to declaw him.
and i heard that pet clippers were best, but i've been using some regular toe clippers that seem to work fine (and i almost cut past the vein once, but he let me know real quick that wasn't cool)
and yes i know he's old enough to understand, but it seems i'm the only one here at the apartment who disciplines him, and so when i'm not here he doesn't get "punished" for doing things he shouldn't--so i'm frustrated as to how to fix that--i squirt him with water and bump his nose and say "NO" when he does things wrong when i'm around--but no one else does it consistently--so it's frustrating--but he'll learn--someday!

trim them. you can use regular toenail clippers or whatever. you just want to clip the very tip so they arn't sharp. you need to start soon though, if you have a hard time getting him to settle down so you can do it, put a sock on his head, it'll mellow him out.

i've been trimming him, just thought there might be an easier way out cause he's hard to tame--and NO I'M NOT PUTTING A SOCK ON HIM--he'd def. claw me to death then you FREAK.
