possibilities off the top of my headladulcineaNovember 4 2003, 08:33:02 UTC
(1) subscription to "Spin" magazine (2) www.neighborhoodies.com personalized hoodies, really good quality (3) nice dinner out, like Flying Frog Cafe or something (4) gift certificate to Dunham's music of something of the like
A nice dinner at a elegant, but casual downtown restaurant is a good suggestion from earlier, like the Flying Frog Cafe, or if you don't have a lot of money and want to go somewhere equally as grand, Jim and my favorite restaurant is Zambra's downtown on Walnut St. (right behind Malaprops).
They are excellent Spanish Tapas, Morocca, and Portugese food. They are semi-romantic, but not too gushy, and decorated so elegantly, but you can go casually dressed. It's so good, you'll feel like you're ripping them off when you see the prices of the food.
Plus their designer/decorator was featured in Southern Living for his work in the place, as well as his interesting design for the bar in Zambra (he, for some off reason, inlayed wrenches into the marble and stone work in the bar, I don't know why, but it looks cool).
But, Amber, the owner of Zambra is Hector Diaz, the man who also ownes Salsa's and he's a fabulous cook. mmmm, I'm making myself so friggin hungry just thinking about it.
Well I don't know about Amber but you've sold ME on Zambra's. I've been wanting to check it out. They're having a flamenco show there in a couple weekends so I'm planning to go then anyway.
It's awesome. My boss used to be a kitchen consultant for five star restaurants in the DC area and Zambra is one of his five favs in Asheville, and he knows his restaurants. His picks are:
Left Bank, Flying Frog, Zambra, Savoy, & Gabrielle's at Richmond Hill Inn
Zambra is the only one I can afford, but I think it, by far, has the most charm.
no.. a nice engraved flask would be nice but it may say "YOU'RE AN ALCOHOLIC!" or may support such a habit... same with a blown pipe, nice thing to do but is it something you want to do?
if he likes scotch at all a bottle of glenmorangie's port wood finish 12 year scotch mmm. or a bottle of gentleman jack if he likes bourbon.. maybe maker's mark
or make him something, i always thought hand made gifts were the most thoughtful and special since they're unique and personalized
sounds like you have plenty of areas that you know he has likes/interests in
