also, with the paul/george meeting thing, i think its normal and perhaps better that they dont remember it! i could never remember the first time i met most of my friends, if you asked me. i guess john and pauls meeting was instantly significant, cos they didnt meet as PALS, they met to join forces and be a BAND. and in that way, its a landmark, and it was straight away. also, theres a significant event (the fete) that has been researched and therefore a date can be easily put to it.... even a time. on a school-bus, there's obviously no date. nothing special, just two guys meeting and chatting - wheras with john and paul it was two guys meeting with an ulterior motive.

I don't remember the first time I met most of my friends, either, so yes, the Paul and George meeting (lack of) recollection is the more normal way. Plus I can't remember the first time I met my cousins, either, and I think George and Paul very very much like family that way. Also, no one introduced them to each other; they just slipped into each other's lives.

Such a beautiful, heartbreaking work. I think you did better getting inside George's head than just any fic writer I've read so far. You captured the struggle to be the mature adult with the vengeful, petulant child inside.

Paul, being Paul, hones his maddening let-me-just-hop-over-this-alligator-to-catch-a-look-at-that-gorgeous-silver-lining! attitude to perfection

This line is perfection.

Thank you so much for the kind feedback! I'm glad you think I did George justice.

Re: that line, I vaguely remember reading it in a long ago JHP discussion, back when I was still lurking and went through the archive checking out old debates. I think it was from a 2006 conversation but can't remember any more who said it; it just stuck in my mind and refused to go away because, as you say, it's a good one. :) And so when I wrote the story I couldn't resist using it.
