NO SLAM tonight

Dec 15, 2006 08:57

Our venue is double-booked, so: NO SLAM tonight.
See you all in ought seven!

(Instead, consider stopping in at the Bakehouse on the Square
for the Irish Seisiun, 5:30-8:30p.)

Oh so sad! We should find a not so frequented restaurant instead!

We've been reconsidering the future of the slam in general. Hmm.

It's actually "nought."

Ought as a noun is a variant of nought ("a nought" became "an ought"). Both are variants of naught/aught, which is considered archaic, a semantic aspect I have expolited here for comedic effect.

Super interesting! See you guys later at the Vid if the Irish session doesn't go on all night :) We can set up a darts tournament: boys v. girls (you/James v. me/Mari).

It can be one of three things: ought, aught, or nought. I've always seen it aught, though. :)

I'm used to seeing it in reference to U.S. shotgun specs: 30.06 = thirty ought six. (See also Tom Waits "16 Shells from a Thirty Ought Six.")
