Who I Am to the Audio Crowd

I've been invited to serve on the board of directors for NATF and so needed to put together a brief bio. Plus, these may be little-known facts, gentle readers, as I don't have as many opportunities do the audio thing around here anymore, not as publicly as I do some other artistic endeavors.

Tony Brewer is an independent sound effects artist and spoken word performer from Bloomington, Indiana. He produced and directed eight episodes of the HAYWARD SANITARIUM horror series, which aired nationally on NPR PLAYHOUSE in 1994, and went on to produce, direct, and perform in dozens of live and studio works at the end of the last century for Last Minute Productions and WFHB Community Radio. Recent credits include: live sound effects for THE MERRY WIDOW with the Knoxville Opera (2002); live sound effects for WAR OF THE WORLDS with the Franklin (Tenn.) Drama Review during a Martian opposition (2003); co-director of sound effects with NATF (2001-2003, 2006); foley for the independent film INVERSES (2005); and sound effects, ADR, and voice work with Mind’s Ear Audio Productions, including for an audio tour of Arlington National Cemetery. Tony also is the voice of reason behind MATRIX (www.matrixmag.com), a literary, performance, and art exhibition consortium he co-founded in 1998. He has published and toured extensively, especially throughout the Midwest, most recently in support of his book of poems THE GREAT AMERICAN SCAPEGOAT (2006). He also runs a poetry slam, workshop, and open mic; plays bodhrán (Irish frame drum) and other percussion; and delivers play-by-play commentary for the Bleeding Heartland Rollergirls. Professionally he is a book compositor for Indiana University Press and offers literary services through his company, The Same Page.

I hope to bring to the NATF board what I’ve brought to all this other stuff: a level head, an open mind, and a good ear. I have found that collaboration is an important part of what I want to do artistically, in audio and in print, and I look forward to working in an administrative capacity with people I also respect creatively.
