I don't know what your timeline is, but I recommend OH SO HIGHLY the workshops at the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown. Although what with housing and travel you'd end up putting out some cash of your own in addition to the grant, I guess -- so I don't know if that is a possibility. Their schedule for next summer (mid-June through early August) will be up in January. Unlike some workshops, I always end up doing a buttload of actual writing there.
If D.A. Powell teaches there next summer and you can take his workshop, double triple bonus. (He's a freaking amazing teacher. I think you'd like him a lot.)
Cool, I was hoping you'd post some info on that one :)
The grant has to be spent in FY 2007 (July 07 - June 08) but I think they're flexible as long as I document everything. It was awarded late anyway. MY timeline issue is the National Audio Theatre Festival, for which I direct sound effects and next year am producing a segment on cowboy poetry. That workshop is sometime in late June (date's not firm yet), and I spend a week or two prepping before I go.
But I will definitely explore this option. Money isn't a huge obstacle; the grant is an excuse for me to spend some $$/time on myself for poetry. So I'm a-gonna!!
Hmmmm. It's splitting hairs, but maybe if you PAID for the workshop in FY07 it would be OK if you actually ATTENDED it in July 08? :) FAWC won't be posting their schedule until January -- if you think you might be interested, email them and see if you can get on their mailing list, and then you'll get a paper copy of the schedule a couple weeks before they post it, and the opportunity to register a little early. (If you want on-site housing, you have to nab it really early.)
Doug (Powell) has taught in June before, but I don't know when (or even if) he'll be there next summer. I may drop him an email and ask. If he is there, I am actually considering taking a THIRD workshop with him ... that's how much I like him as a teacher.
Whatever you end up doing, you'll have a fabulous time, I'm sure. It so rocks that you got that grant!
