I'm wondering something... I wonder if it's something like wanting to dwell in a bit of a past moment. I've felt this way today as I was walking around Rogers Park in the cooling evening ( ... )

That said, I have a constant internal backlash against the attitude of "feminism is over, the bitches won, everyone is equal so go about your business" that pushes me to rationalize most things through that lens. Which, I think can be helpful and hurtful in equal parts. That is, I don't think it's completely out of bounds for me to think it's at least somewhat a gender thing. Point of fact, M. grew up in an extremely masculine family - really, his dad's family was his main family and there were really mostly men and they vacationed together while the womenfolk went shopping and suchnot so, there's that as well...

Yeah, I'm one of those women who only ever uses tampons if I really really have to because I'm afraid of getting it stuck up there forever. I have no problem with bodily functions, and actually love getting my period (it means I'm alive, and no baby, YAY) but cotton chunks? No!

I get freaked about tampons as well. I've heard interesting things about the menstrual cup and I'm thinking about trying it out, if only because I hate those winged diapers and the thought that until rather recently it was a-ok for manufacturers to put *asbestos* in tampons to promote bleeding (and the need for more tampons) just squicks me right the fuck out.

Argh, that asbestos thing totally fucked me off too. Let me know what you think of the cup if you try it out. I like lunapads (http://www.lunapads.com/) but they're still pads, just not as environmentally unfriendly, less expensive, and make the whole process seem more normal and less "icky" than pads, that seem to want to make menstruation into some kind of diaper-poo type gross.
