A few years back there was a woman on one of those talk-shows, I think it may have been Montel but don't quote me on that, who had one of those freaky genetic disorders that hits 1 in every 20 million people or what have you.  It caused her to physically look like a child of twelve despite having the mind of a how-ever-old-she-was-year-old.  She ( Read more... )

Perhaps just one step closer to having true thought police? Certainly in this case you are doing something by acting out a desire or thought but the difference between that an truly policing someones thoughts is just the ability to tag someone with the crime such as it is.

Trust in one thing; we're not but a year away from true cyber-prostitution with specialized USB peripherals controlled from afar after your credit card has cleared. What then when that device is controlled by an underage-looking person in Thailand?

It shall be entertaining.

But you're not doing anything physical in this case. You're, in fact, not doing anything more than making a sort of a movie play out, which is no different, really, in the way it affects the real world than a fantasy (it's just easier, it takes less imagination, because the computer imagines for you). The only difference is that this fantasy can be seen by other people.

As far as the USB peripherals (and it is already here, devices that I can't find links to while I'm at work that can be controlled by another person), I doubt anyone would pay for them. It would be much cheaper to design a program that emulates a real person, and also it would be possible for the user to only experience those things that they enjoy. There'd be none of those occasional rhythmic problems that you get with someone else in the room.
