Another day, another neurosis

I never know how to walk across intersections.

See, when I get to the intersection and I know that the light will be changing soon, but I'd very much like to be across the street now rather than in a minute or two, I'll do this sort of half jog.  It's not really a walk, but it doesn't really move me across the street any quicker.  It would be a ( Read more... )

I'll bet you'd be less likely to say that if you saw the guy blocking you was a jogging retard.

I certainly hope so, yes.

In that sort of instance I always give the driver(s) a sort of half-wave with a finger or two to indicate that I see them and that I'll be out of their way in a moment. That solves the problem of what to do with my arms.

That's not a bad idea. I could do the half wave.

Actually I did not. I didn't have a program on my computer at work, so I instead just searched the internet for two sine waves of the same amplitude but of varying frequencies. But I'd have graphed them myself if work didn't suck.

Despite the graph and excellent description, I think some videographic evidence would really help us understand exactly how this walk/jog is performed. Perhaps we should all study this technique and add it to our street crossing repertoire. At the least, it would provide enormous entertainment value.

You're a cruel hearted fella' you know that? That you would laugh at someone's very serious street-crossing-retard-walk syndrome.

Au contraire, monsieur! I am not being cruel hearted at all. Your behaviour fascinates me! I intend to study it in depth in the hopes of assimilating it into my own street crossings so that I, too, can entertain and bemuse the masses. Now send me that video!!!!!

I disapprove of this post only because it threatens my theory that there was no use for those damn sine graphs we learned about in Calculus.

Meanwhile, I am highly amused that you graphed your walking patterns, and to solve your dilemma I suggest perhaps using a secant instead? Hmmm, I think my attempt to be funny was ruined by its close proximity to math facts.

Oh, see I totally disagree. The closer something is to math, the funnier it gets. Math is the asymptote of hilarity towards which all jokes should be approaching.
