Have you guys noticed how it seems like John Edwards is never in the news, but Elizabeth is all over the place ( Read more... )

Actually he was just in the news Friday? After a public appearance event on Friday that Hillary and Obama were also at. Apparently 'Fox Noise' left the mics on after it was over and caught Edwards and Clinton discussing that the next debates should be pared down to fewer invitees: That the mass of democratic candidates was counter-productive. Dennis Kucinich called the both elitist.

Yeah, I remember that sort of thing happening with the HRC debates too. As I recall they didn't invite Alaskan senator Mike Gravel (he of rock-throwing YouTube video fame) which he was a bit miffed about. I think they just changed their mind on Friday.

Oh, I loved her call to Hardball. I thought it was really effective in showing what a harpy Coulter really was because Edwards handled it, as you say, with incredible self-restraint and didn't lower herself to the really bitchy level that Coulter seems to inspire in people (including myself).

I think she's making more appearances because she polls better than he does. Ironically, this is because she has cancer.

I don't doubt that she polls better than he does, but I think it might be more that she's actually a really great speaker and very much not a politician, which I think people find refreshing. Like when she called in to Hardball, you could hear her voice betraying what sounded like a nervousness that she was trying to overcome. It made her seem very human and very moral, like, she's nervous but she still feels like it's her duty to stand up for her husband and herself. And unlike so much political discourse, it didn't feel strategic, it felt like what any human being ought to do. God, it made me a little teary.

But, if it is the cancer, I don't know if I'd say that's so ironic. I mean, who doesn't love a little malignancy?

If she wasn't dying of cancer, I'd say that she should be running for president instead of him.

Alas. And there's also that matter of her not having any political experience to speak of.

Given the bumbling and incompetence of the current administration, I'm really of the opinion that that doesn't especially matter.

Funny, NBC News just tossed out how Elizabeth/John are co-candidates. I am surprised, though, that Bill is not leveraged more in Hillary's campaign, I think he's more of a boon than a liability, unless another hussy decides to surface with a sex scandal.

Bill would generally be much more damaging to the campaign than you think. Remember that a lot of people still hate him a lot, and also remember that Hillary wants to shake off the image of herself as glomming onto his political career to further her own.
