How about the fact that it's more than possible that Mr. Earnshaw brought Heathcliff home because Heathcliff was his illegitimate son and Earnshaw therefore felt somewhat responsible for the boy?

Adds a whole new fillip to Heathcliff/Cathy, doesn't it?

I made my way through this book just so I could follow these strips, and while I agree with the comment that the book is full of selfish jerks, I'm glad to have made the effort.
