Yesterday I went to see The New World and it was such a gorgeous visual and emotional experience. Terrence Malick and Emmanuel Lubezki's composition, color, and brilliant natural lighting are incredible and the resulting images are miraculous. I probably would have enjoyed The New World more if it wasn't for the pair of twin seven year olds behind me talking about how Pocahontas would have looked better if she was shot in the eye with an MK gun - and an old man who was loudly talking to his wife. UGh. I feel so mad about having my experience totally ruined by the damn audience commentary.

Yeah, thankfully no one was vocal during the film, but the audience composition (young kids, teenyboppers, obviously not artsy people without any idea what they were getting into, etc.) was strange, amusing, and just bizarre. I was also surprised to see the theater so full. I have a feeling that there will be a lot of talk about how "the commercials lied to me; that movie was so boring and stupid!"
