So, I guess in my brain I had nothing worthy to say for the last year, or nothing I wanted to say. I am still here, I do still check livejournal daily. Let's just see if I actually have any followers left myself. Annnnyway

It sucks that work's turned into something dreary like that. Make sure you don't overexert yourself at any new job, tabling or otherwise. I remember you mentioning a few injuries that can put you out of commission for quite a while.
Regarding Hawaii - do you plan on making use of the casino's work time in your résumé? If so and the trip may compromise your reference, then look at finding someone else inside that can vouch for you (e.g. pit boss or fellow senior table games attendant).
Eh, as for work, unless you do book PTO off several weeks/months in advance, you cannot get a day off. We don't get sick days, so... Not much of a choice, alas.
As for Hawaii, really, it's 5 more days off and I have the paid time off already earned to cover it. So it really shouldn't compromise anything other than my bank account. I talked to my supervisor about it today and she booked me in for the PTO soo.... I think I'm going!
Most of my posts lately have been mini-reviews of books - I've been writing largely for myself. The year has started off poorly - female health issues, followed up by a nasty cold that knocked me flat on my back for a few days. On the upside: I couldn't do much beyond lie on the couch and read.
Regarding Hawaii: if it's not going to mess up your job reference (i.e. if I took an extra week off work in a month, I'd be fine: I have the vacation time saved up to use, and am entitled to it. If I didn't have the time, I'd be screwed.), then *go*! Seriously - it's the kind of opportunity that doesn't come around every year, and you only live once.
Besides: how else am I supposed to live vicariously if my friends don't have exciting things happen to them? Go, and take photos for me. ;P
I've been keeping up on your mini reviews and actually making a bit of a list of things to read myself! I'd have picked up one or two of them already, but I decided to reread the whole Dresden series (I haven't read them all again since my original readings, and I love the books, AND the history was getting a bit too intense for me to remember it all.) So. Once that's done, I'll be picking up new books! Your reviews are much appreciated, as I much respect your taste and intelligence.
And yeah, it won't mess up my job reference. It's PTO just like yours. So, yeah, I'm gonna go visit Kelly out in Hawaii! Will definitely be posting pictures.

I think it's the right thing to do.

And there's nothing wrong with being a waitress. Especially if you can land a high-end restaurant. I knew a waiter at Flemings that drove a porsche.
