Big dead mall

yep - they're turning part of it into a Hilton Hotel. The downtown area is more small town-oriented now (wineries, novelties, local nostalgia, etc.). The Valley Mall and all of the commercial and retail Union Gap area is BOOMing in the corporate retail side of things, whereas the downtown Yakima is booming in the local, small business side of things.
