CHARACTER

✧ NAME: Lily Potter née Evans
✧ SERIES: Harry Potter
✧ HISTORY: Harry Potter Lexicon (Lily)
✧ TIMELINE: Seconds before her death
✧ PERSONALITY:
According to many that knew her, Lily was an exceptionally kind woman; often looking beyond the flaws that most people would see in an individual and see the beauty that is inside of them. It took a great person to be able to see beyond the flaws that most people saw and to accept a person for who they truly were. She could see the best in just about everyone and many people wondered why she kept Severus Snape as a friend for so long. He was the first person who introduced her to the wizarding war and was her first true friend. He supported her when her sister thought that she was a freak and wanted nothing to do with her. Having her sister turn her back on her hurt deeply, but she could see things through her sisters point of view and never held it against her. For years she tried to rekindle the friendship they once had, but Petunia wanted nothing to do with her or the world that she was now a part of. Lily never stopped trying to win her sister back, but their relationship was never salvaged.

Along with her kindness Lily was a caring person who would put herself in danger to comfort a friend. (One such friend was Remus Lupin when he was dealing with being a werewolf.) There was a light that Lily possessed and once it was gone it was gone forever. Often leaving a hole in the lives of the people she touched.

She was a talented young witch; becoming Head Girl during her final year at Hogwarts and becoming an all-time favorite of Professor Horace Slughorn, who was the Potions Master during her years at the school. He noted that she was a charming young woman who had a knack for potions. She was also very witty. When he spoke of Lily to Harry it was clear that he felt a great loss with Lily’s death. Anyone that Harry talked to always showed remorse or sorrow when speaking of Lily.

Her good-natured personality made her stick up for those who were less fortunate; she often came to the rescue of Severus Snape when he was being bullied by James or Sirius, but it did little good because they continued to bully him. She couldn’t stand to see them pick on him, but their friendship fell apart when he called her a Mudblood without thinking. Normally Lily was able to look beyond a lot of things, but being called a Mudblood by her best friend was something she couldn’t forgive. This was when a rare part about her kind personality came out; where she was unwilling to forgive and hold a grudge against someone. Their downfall was the cause of many things; his devotion to Voldemort and his obsession with the Dark Arts, but it was the name he used when she was defending him that made it all come crashing down. It was hard seeing her best friend change. He meant so much to her and in one day it all fell apart. Severus knew that he made a mistake and tried to make amends, but Lily couldn’t take it anymore. She didn’t feel like he was the same person anymore and she couldn’t stand the people that he associated with. He made his choice, between the Dark Arts and herself and Lily made her choice. To continue life without him, even though it left a great hole in her heart.

There is more to Lily than her kind-hearted personality; it just happens to be the part of her that people remember the most and reminisce upon when they think or talk about her. During her years at Hogwarts ( and after ) Lily had no trouble standing up against people. From a very young age she couldn’t stand seeing defenseless people being picked upon and often found herself telling James and his friends that they needed to leave the other students alone. Of course, this fell upon deaf ears and they never paid attention to her. This only made her furious and it brought out her sharp tongue; she wasn’t afraid to tell James Potter what she thought of him and for the longest time she couldn’t stand how he was. His prankster personality put her off, but as he got older he matured and Lily found herself attracted to that aspect of him. Finally, in their seventh year, Lily put aside her pride and they began dating.

As the war waged on Lily evolved as a person; while she was always brave she needed to be braver to stand against Voldemort in the Order of the Phoenix. Willing to put her life on the line for others, but it wasn’t until the life of her son was threatened that she made the final sacrifice to save him. This act was what saved him in the end. With her kind-hearted and warm personality, it wasn’t hard for Lily to fall into the role of motherhood. She wanted to give Harry everything that she could possibly give him, but that was hard with how things were when Harry was born. Constantly moving around and hiding from Death Eaters ( and the Dark Lord ) made life hard. Bringing a child up during a war wasn’t something she planned, but once she felt the fluttering of a child within her, Lily knew she would only fight harder to end the war for her son. So that he could grow up in a better world.

✧ ABILITIES/POWERS:
From a very young age, Lily showed great talent and skill as a witch. The fact that she is Muggle-born (born from non-magical parents) only strengthens this statement. Even Lord Voldemort was willing to overlook her blood status and ask that Lily and James join him. (Of course, they refused the offer.)

Lily knows a large variety of spells; even some not taught during her years at Hogwarts. (Such as the patronus charm.) She excelled in everything she did; transfiguration where she was able to turn a petal into a fish, even preformed illegal under-age magic while at home during the holidays to show her sister and parents what she could do, she had great skill in potions and even caught the eyes of one Horace Slughorn and became one of his trophy students, dueling is a given since she was able to escape Voldemort and his Death Eaters on various occasions, and she did well in charm work (could be from the fact that her wand was crafted for charms).

✧ THIRD PERSON:
It was only a matter of time before they were caught, but Lily never suspected the Voldemort would break into her home to kill them. Everything was chaotic and she wasn’t completely sure what was happening. The last thing she remembered was running towards Harry’s room and locking herself inside; Lily knew it wouldn’t hold against him, but it would give her time to think things through. To either prepare herself to die or to fight back. She wasn’t a quitter, but there was only so much she could do alone and protecting Harry was her main priority.

Carefully she knelt before the crib, gripping the railing, looking into the eyes of her son. “Harry, be safe,” she said in the soothing tone she used when Harry was upset or sick. It seemed to calm him down and that’s what she wanted. There was no need to make this harder on him.

The sound of a body falling pulled her from the moment and she glanced towards the door.

He is here and James is dead.

Lily wasn’t sure how she knew, but she did. Her husband just died and she was going to be next. Turning her attention back to her son, she smiled sweetly, reaching out with a long finger to run the tip of it over her son’s chubby cheek. “Be strong,” she told him. He needed to be everything that she couldn’t right now. Harry was all that she had left and she wasn’t about to go down without a fight. She would do everything within her power to protect him; Lily would sacrifice herself to ensure that her son lived. He was far too young to die and she wasn’t about to let Voldemort kill him.

Slowly the door creaked open and Lily stood. With a deep breath she turned to face Voldemort. She knew that she should feel panic, but it was gone. As a mother she was always ready to put the life of her child before herself.

“Stand aside,” the Dark Lord said.

Lily wasn’t expecting those words to come from him and she knew that he didn’t give James that option. As tempting as it might be to another person, Lily didn’t budge from where she stood. Between Voldemort and Harry.

“Stand aside,” he demanded this time. Wand at the ready. “I only want the boy. Walk away now while you still have the chance.”

She still found herself in disbelief at what he was saying; he was willing to let her go. Lord Voldemort was willing to let a Muggle born go. How the wizarding world would be in an uproar to hear this.

Still Lily didn’t move. “Please,” she said in a tight voice. Tears already streaming down her cheeks. “Let my son live and kill me instead.”

There was some sound that resembled a laugh that escaped the Dark Lord. Anger filled Lily, but she didn’t let it show. He raised his wand and pointed at her. Perhaps hoping that it would make her move, but it didn’t. Instead she braced herself for what would happen. A green light filled the room and her vision before the whole world went black.
