Part One

Name Sara.
Age Seventeen.
Location: Santa Cruz, California.
Zodiac Sign: Aries.
Last Book you Read: The Stranger by Albert Camus

Part Two:(Favorites)Explanations are nice.

Food: Salad. I'm kind of a vegetable freak.
Books The Stranger by Camus, Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison, and The Tao of Pooh by Benjamin Hoff.
Music: I'm kind of an indie fan, but I don't want to come off sounding lame and "cool." I like indie music because I prefer unknown bands. Preconceived notions come along with well known names, whereas unknown artists allow people to actually choose whether they like or dislike the band, without anyone else's influence. That said, my favorites at the moment are Mates of State, Bishop Allen, KT Tunstall, The Ditty Bops, and Tegan and Sara.
Songs:Romeo and Juliet by Kristen Bell and Christian Campbell, and Things Are What You Make of Them by Bishop Allen.
TV Shows: Veronica Mars, Alias, and Grey's Anatomy.
Movies:Wet Hot American Summer, Reefer Madness, The Machinist, The United States of Leland and The Usual Suspects.
Colors:Green.
Sports:To watch: Football. To play: Waterpolo and swimming.
Candy:3 Musketeers.
Subject in school:History and Government.
Thing to do on a rainy night:Watch a movie or sit in front of a fire.
Store for clothes:Little boutiques or thrift stores.
Store for non-clothes:Longs.
Piece of make up (ie, eyeshadow, eyeliner...) Brown eyeliner.

Part Three: (Opinions) Please FULLY explain.

Gay Marriage:I would like to start off my explaination with the fact that I am president of my high school's Gay/Straight Alliance. That said, I am not fighting for gay marriage in the United States. I am for civil rights and gay rights, and fight for them, however, I am also a realist. In this day and age in the United States, gay marriage is not a possible national reality. It will not happen. Proven by Bush's reelection, we are a country of conservative Republicans, many of whom are evangelical Christians. Their religion preaches that homosexuality is wrong. If it is wrong, they will never allow it. Marriage is a religious act. Civil union, however, would allow a "marriage" without angering the church and the majority of the country. Whoever, I would, in no way, oppose gay marriage legilation. It would be wonderful if it were realistic.
Drinking Age:I'm kind of torn on this one. On the one hand, it is a good idea to wait til the age of 21 so that the brain is fully developed and cannot be as easily damaged. On the other hand, if the drinking age were lowered to 18, for instance, it might take away from the thrill of underage drinking. It's kind of in the nature of a teenager to go out and defy laws. If it were legal for them to drink, it would not be as inticing. But I'm not really personally invoved at all, because I don't drink.
Premarital Sex:As long as it's responsibly, I'm fine with it. I'm not religious, so marriage does not hold as strongly to me as others. I do however, stress that sex should not be taken lightly. There can be consequences. If you are not old enough to deal with the possibilities of pregnancy or STDs, do not have sex. If you do not genuinely care for/are in love with the person you are sleeping with, do not have sex.
George W. Bush, and administration:I'm not a fan, however, I'm not an anarchist. I strongly support our system of governement, just not the current administration. I believe they have made mistakes that should have and could have been prevented. I do not, however, believe in Bush-bashing. I think it's petty. Yes, we all know "Bush is a moron." It's lame to sit there and think that we could be a better president. I don't know that I would have handled situations any better. I know I would have handled them differently, but I don't see a ponit in making fun and name calling after the fact. Bush is not a great president. He will go down in history much like his father, and several others. They were medicore and they made mistakes. But I don't think Bush is much worse than LBJ. And is defintely better than Jackson.
Standardized Testing:Ridiculous. How is one extraordinarily long testing block supposed to reflect your intelligence? I'm sorry, but after three hours, my brain doesn't work anymore. I cannot be expected to get a high SAT score after that (proven by my low SAT scores). I do, however, understand how they are able to stay present in our schools. No Child Left Behind is ridiculous, but the SATs are an institution and allow colleges one way to view their applicants/students along with many other factors. That said, I hate the CollegeBoard.
Allocation of school funds for sports programs: I would support it, if it were evenly distributed. I'm really having problems with this right now. My school just got a large grant to rebuild aspects of my school, and the distribution has been bothering me greatly. We are having a new gym built, new statium seats, and a theater. Don't get me wrong, I'm very excited about the theater, but my problem is that we already have a great gym. The original idea was to rebuild our pool, make it regulation, and deep enough for waterpolo and diving. They've had to cut back on money, so they're just going to rebuild the pool without changing anything. We will still only be three feet deep and 23 yards. However, football and basketball get all the money they want. It's weak.
Cigarettes:DUMB. I don't know if there's sort of explaination I can give. There is not point for cigarettes, at all. No excuse would change my mine. Cigarettes are dumb.
Illegal Drugs:Hello, they're illegal for a reason. If there are things wrong in your life, don't fix them by doing drugs. Don't get high to forget your problems because, hey, guess what, they're still there when you come back down. Lame. Once again, no excuse. Peer pressure is not an excuse to do drugs.
The weight of backpacks due to textbooks:Ahaha. My school doesn't have lockers, and I take AP classes. AP classes = big fat books. It sucks. I'm sure I'll have back problems in the long run due to my backpack. The last time I weighed it, it was over 50 pounds. It's ridiculously unnecessary.
3-5 Topics of your choice:
Illegal Immigrants: To be blunt, GO BACK HOME. I am all for immigration. I love immigration. But do it legally. File your papers, and come on over. Heck, I'll throw you a party, as long as you're legal. If you're not, you do not deserve a driver's license. You should not be taking money from our economy. It's not fair.
College: I think the college application/admissions/fincial aid process has become ridiculous and excessive. It's gotten to the point where you have to decide where you want to go to college and what you want to be when you're in 8th grade, or you're screwed. You have to be top of your class. You have to be varsity all four years of high school. It's ridiculous. That's not well rounded students, that's sheep. Kids who do community service yet care nothing about the community, and just want to get into college is not helping anything. And then there's the cost of college. It is not okay that USC is the same price as Harvard. An education should not cost over $180,000.
Freedom of Information Act: I think it is a horrible thing. While on the one hand, we do pride ourselves on having a government for the people, but in reality, we are run by a centralized government. We do not elect our president, we do not run our country. Yes, we have say in it, but we do not run it. We should not have access to nor demand critical information to our government. We complain that we have CIA leaks and such, when we can go sit in on Congress every day of the year while highly crucial matters of government are being debated. While it is good that we can know what's going on, a form of checks and balances, it is frightening that anyone can go in there. How can we have no secrecy?

Part 4: (What if) Explanations are nice.

What if you were offered $1,000,000, but you had to serve a year in the army?I wouldn't. If I were to serve in the army, it would be for my country, not for riches. I never plan to serve in the military, but I respect those who do. I know that I cannot, so I owe them my life. I would not be opposed to serving the government, just not in the form of the military.
What if you were offered your dream job but it meant moving to a place with living conditions such as having to boil water before drinking? That would not be my dream job. My dream job involves a highly state-of-the-art and sanitary hospital.
What if you were offered your dream job, but for the next 20-30 years you couldn't travel out of state/out of your province?I would take it. I love travel, but it's something I will always be able to do. After 20-30 years of solid work, I could retire and travel where I wished.
What if you were offered the chance to play in a state/national championship game, but due to injury you know you'd hurt the team's chances of winning? Would you play? BEEN THERE. I was in a car accident and broke my cholar bone. By the time finals came around, my shoulder wasn't healed enough to swim well. I passed on the meet. I did not want to hinder the team.
What if a friend told you to lose the LJ or lose them? I would keep the LJ. Why would my friend care if I had an LJ? If something as minute as an internet journal would destroy our friendship, it's not worth having.

Part five (This or That) Explanations are nice.

Coke or Pepsi? Pepsi. Always been better.
Red or blue? Blue. Maybe it's the liberal in me. =D
Brush or comb? Neither. I don't brush my hair.
Abercrombie or PacSun? Abercrombie. But I don't really shop at either.
Swimming at the Beach or Skiing in Colorado? Swimming at the beach. I take it for granted, but I love it.
Europe or Hawaii? Europe. I've been to Hawaii twice, and never to Europe.
Psychology or Sociology? Psychology, though I love both.
Warm fleece blanket or quilted comforter? Quilted. Quilted means time was put into it.
Sweatshirt or sweater? Sweatshirt. I look awkward in sweaters.
Play an instrument or sing? Both. I've been playing guitar/bass and singing a lot lately.
Write a story or paint a picture? Write a story, though I'm not a fan of either. I don't like to express myself that way.
Live in 1516 England, at the height of Henry VIII's reign, or in 1939 Germany(flushing toilets but looming war). Henry. Either way, in Germany, you're screwed. You're either killed because of your faith (or other random things), a murderer, or a witness to these murders. No thank you.

Part Six: (Looks)

What are you wearing right now? Do NOT mention brands or where you purchased it. A brown t-shirt and jeans.
What do you consider your best feature? My hair.
What do you consider your worst feature? My chin.
Would you ever have plastic surgery? I'm not going to say never, but I highly doubt it.
Tattoos or piercings? Ears.
Do you work out? If so, how often? Not often enough. Maybe...twice a week.
Post a picture of yourself in formal wear:

Kind of old...but it's formal.

Part seven: You

1. Why did you decide to apply to this community? Because I like new communities, and you guys look like you have a solid foudation.
2. What are your pet peeves? Yellow lights, double standards, and reverse racism.
3. Would you rather curl up with a good book on a comfy chair next to a fireplace on a winter evening or go to the local NBA/NHL/NCAA game? Comfy chair.
4. What makes you stand out from everyone else? BE ORIGINAL. If you put something generic, like 'I care about people and I'm nice', you'll get frowned upon, if not an outright 'no' from the mods. I'm a realist without be a pessemist. I have dreams for the future, and I think they are reachable. I set goals for myself that I know I can reach. I set goals for myself that I know I need others to help me reach.
5. What are some of your worst habits? I put myself down.
6. Do you do community service? If so, what's the last that you did? If not, why not? I work with my high school's Booster Club (the only student who helps. lol.) and I help raise money for things our district cannot afford...like text books...
7. What are three things you want to accomplish before dying, not including getting married/having a family/seeing the world/getting really rich? I wouldl ike to find acceptance for everything. I would like to accept myself and those around me.
8. What are three places you want to go to? Why? France, so I can see if I can really use my skills of giving directions on the metro. Washington DC, so I can see our government in action. And New York, so I can see some Broadway shows.
9. Close your eyes, turn left, and grab the nearest thing you can (If you're at a wall, turn the other way or backwards). What is it? ...a graphing calculator...yes. I'm a nerd. I was doing my calculus homework while filling this out.

Part 8: School Smarts

1. Math: 8x / 9(4x+1) = 10 What is x? -45/176.
2. Science: Choose one of the following:
Biology: What is mitochondria? Where would you find mitochondria? Power house of the cell. They are located...in the cell.
Chemistry: What is dihydrogen monoxide? What do you get when you mix sodium and chloride?
Physics: What is the rate of acceleration? What is the visible light spectrum?

3. English: Write a paragraph (5-7 sentences) using similie, metaphor, hyperbole, and two other figures of speech. Then, pick any work of Shakespeare and summarize it as best you can (one sentence is fine and any play will do)
...I can define them all, but I suck at creative writing. I'm in AP English and can't even write a freaking descriptive paragraph. Give me something to analyze, though, and I'll rock it.
So, I'll rock Shakespeare's Hamlet because it is freshest in my mind. Hamlet is the story of a young prince of Denmark who's father is killed by his uncle, who then marries his recently widowed mother. Hamelt gets sad and decides to kill his new father. Craziness ensues, and everyone dies.

4. History: What is the significance of the year 1066 in England? OR What is the general significance of the year 1607? Sweet question!!! 1066 in England was the year of three kings. The fun part of it is that I am a decendent of William the Conqueror. Yesss. But I never get to go around saying "Duuude. William the Conqueror is my ancestor" because who the hell would care?

5. Pick one subject that you're currently taking, and come up with a question and answer for it, like the other ones in this section. I'll be lame and write a calc question. "Evaluate the integral cos3xdx over the interval [0.1,0.2] by using the fundamental theorem of calculus."
The integral is (1/3)(sin0.6-sin0.3) or 0.0897074.
