Summary: Nino can be a pretty stubborn student, but there just might be another who can change that.
A/N: Yeah, what the heck am I doing, writing a High School AU series when I haven't finished Wait For Me yet.
“Ah, sorry,” Nino apologized quickly, barely glancing at the person he bumped into and continued hurriedly on his way.
The older student gazed at the back of Nino’s retreating back, then bent down to pick up a card. “He dropped his student ID card...” The boy murmured, playing with the card in his long fingers absentmindedly.
--
“Shit,” Nino said loudly, digging through his bag for his ID. “Damn it!”
“Quiet down,” Jun said disapprovingly. “What’s up?”
“I think I lost my ID,” Nino explained, moving his hands to his pockets. “Do you know how much they charge for one? Five dollars for a fucking plastic-”
“Shut up!” Jun hissed, his eyes on a passing teacher. “When did you lose it?”
“How would I know?” Nino frowned, thinking about when he last used it. “Oh! Maybe when I bumped into some guy earlier!”
“Who was it? He might have picked it up.”
Nino sighed, regretting not looking at the person at all. “I didn’t see.” He ignored Jun’s rolling of his eyes and turned around, looking at the crowd of students. He just hoped whoever it was would return it. Nino did not want to spend so much money for a card he didn’t even care about.
--
Nino grumbled, standing outside of the school office. He took out his wallet and fingered the dollar bills, wondering if he should just sell some crap to Aiba for the money. It would probably work.
He sighed and turned away from the office, walking up the stairs quickly. Once he was in front of the music room, Nino stared at the ID scanner on the door. He looked around to see if there were any students around who would lend him their ID, but alas, there were none. Nino sighed again, wondering what to do. His music sheets were still in there- both piano and guitar.
No one was supposed to know that Nino played guitar.
Nino knocked, hoping there was someone in there miraculously- but on second thought, it would be bad if whoever was in there saw Nino’s music sheets. Usually, Nino would be the only one who would be in the room after school. Music wasn’t a big concern in the school, and most of the student body- maybe even teachers- hadn’t even set foot in the room.
Nino was a genius at music, he had been told his whole life. Nino didn’t really let it get to him- he wasn’t that conceited (even if Jun said so more than often), but he did enjoy the attention. Because of the few music players in the school, Nino was greatly appreciated for the music he provided for the school. So, honestly, Nino didn’t mind that he was the best player out of the very few musical students.
However, guitar playing was not something anyone was supposed to know about, except for Aiba and Jun.
Suddenly the door swung open, catching Nino by surprise. “Eh?”
The student who had opened the door tilted his head to the side just the slightest in question. “Shouldn’t I be asking you that?” He smiled and moved over to the side, giving Nino just enough room to slide himself in.
“A-Ah, thanks,” Nino muttered, going into the room. He quickly walked over to the spot where he was sure he left the sheets, and was glad to see that they seemed untouched. Nino grabbed them and stuffed them into his bag, then was about to leave when he realized the other student was watching him closely.
For some reason, Nino couldn’t find himself able to move another step, so he glanced at the other boy. He wasn’t someone Nino knew or recognized at all, so he must be older than Nino. But if Nino didn’t recognize him, then he couldn’t be involved with the school’s music class either, as there was only one class to attend for all grades.
“Who are you?” Nino asked without really thinking.
“Ohno Satoshi,” the boy answered, smiling. The name didn’t sound familiar either.
“What are you doing here?” Nino wasn’t trying to be rude.
“Hm, I wanted to hear you play.”
“You know me?” Nino asked incredulously, even though he shouldn’t be surprised since he was pretty much the only well known musician in the school.
Ohno just smiled. Nino wasn’t sure what to think about it. “Well, would you mind playing then?” Nino shrugged and started to go to the piano, but he was stopped when he passed Ohno. Nino looked down at the long fingers gripping his arm in shock.
“What?”
“The guitar,” Ohno said. His dark brown eyes met with Nino’s confused ones. “I want to hear you play the guitar.”
“I-I don’t play the guitar,” Nino stuttered. Did he see the music sheets? Nino wondered, horrified. Ohno didn’t seem threatening- actually, even his appearance looked innocent. Nino wasn’t fooled though; he barely knew the guy.
Nino looked down, realizing Ohno had taken his hand in his own. Nino wasn’t sure what the student was doing, but he did know that those long and elegant fingers were touching his gently. Normally, Nino would call the interrogator a freak, but for some reason Nino held his breath.
When the student let go, Nino exhaled slowly.
“...What-”
“You have nice calluses, on your fingers,” Ohno interrupted, smiling that same smile that Nino couldn’t understand.
Nino’s cheeks tinged red for only a second. He scoffed softly, “So? Doesn’t mean I play the guitar.”
“Why are you afraid?” Ohno asked quietly, his smile fading. Nino frowned, and he took a step back.
“I’m not afraid of anything,” Nino snapped. He turned to leave, and was glad when he made it to the door. Nino opened it then stepped out.
“Have a nice day, Nino-kun.”
Once the door was closed behind him, Nino swore softly, realizing his heart was beating faster than he would like. So what if the weird kid touched his hand a bit and knew his name? There were probably a hell lot of people who knew his name and wanted to touch his hands, even if they were fat and really not pretty at all.
Unlike Ohno’s.
Nino sighed and stuffed his hands into his pockets. He wasn’t expecting to find his ID card in there.
nextA/N: Is it good, is it good?
But anyways, I just miss posting fanfics and getting awesome comments (seriously AWESOME- *was just rereading some and got all emotional ;-;*), so I decided to post this earlier than I intended to. It's because it's the only thing I've written in a while that I actually don't hate. Meaning I've been writing a whole lot but I just can't get myself to finish writing some/post the finished ones. I'll entertain my readers with this series for the time being until I get my act together. xD
