There is no such thing as inclement weather, only inappropriate footwear

My motto for the day! It's been snowing for much of the night and all day so far here in Ottawa, but it isn't too bad. Normally I would have just stayed home with a lovely pot of tea, but a good friend of mine from out west is visiting relatives here, so we planned to meet for brunch ( Read more... )

Yay, Canadian points! :) Totally jealous of you for getting to skate on the canals - how's the ice?

And haha, yes, extreme weather is very Canadian, no? I remember being on the bus last April (freak snowstorm!) trying to get to the university. The bus was just pulling out of the exchange (at St. Albert Centre, not Village), got about ten feet and had to stop for a red light. When the light went green, the bus didn't move... or rather, started moving sideways rather than forward. Pretty sure everyone on the bus just started laughing because what else are you supposed to do? (By that point, btw, it was about an hour after the bus I was on was supposed to be at the university!)

The weather is always a great conversation starter amongst strangers in Canada!

The ice on the canals varies day by day (but there's a canal app to track ice conditions!), but in general it's not bad. There are some bumpy bits, some cracked bits, but there are often long stretches of fairly smooth ice that hasn't yet been too chewed up by skaters. The problem with today is that the snow on the ice hides the imperfections so I'm more likely to trip over something I can't see.

Canadians do love talking about the weather... (Guaranteed good conversation topic!)

Ooh, nice. Have fun being uber Canadian and skating to school!
