I've seen him play more times than I can count down here in SF. I hope someday I'll be in Seattle at the right time to see him there, cause I feel like the hometown crowd would be kinda awesome!
It really is a great crowd. I have nothing to compare it with, having never seen him any farther away than Eugene, but even the OCF crowd was not as awesome as the Oly/Seattle crowd, in my opinion. I mean, it's a bunch of nerds of varying social awkwardness, but that's why I love it. They just don't give a shit about looking cool, and are there to enjoy the show.
It was so odd. You know I was going to photograph him, right? I was so very excited to do it! Well he was super communicative before the show and comped me in and everything. I shot it and it was cool. There was one weird point when I introduced myself again, went to shake his hand and he went to hug me, so I ended up shaking his arm..kinda ;) I get home I work hard on his photos, edit them and send them to him...eagerly await his response, ask him for the address to send his disk to....nothing. Email him again...nothing. Email him one last time...nothing. I checked the hit history on his photo link, and he never even looked at it. It was so weird, and I can't help but think that I did something to turn him off that night, and that I was totally blown off as an artist. I mean, why not even look at the photos?
