my 2006 in review

first and foremost, i was on top of my personal hard-copy correspondence this holiday season (that is, before i ran out of days in the year), but i have been very neglectful of my well-wishing of the online fashion. so before i go any further, let me tell each of you who hasn't yet heard that i wish nothing but the absolute sweetness and richness

How does one get gamekeeper's thumb?

well, let me just tell you...

...how i got it. it was a skiing accident in which i fell and stopped myself with my forearms, tearing the tendon that connects my thumb to my wrist right off the bone. though the surgeon told me that this is a very common injury for skiers, new and experienced alike, it is not, as you have no doubt by now surmised, the way it got its colloquial name.

apparently, people who raised game, such as rabbits, used to break their poor little fluffy necks between their thumb & forefinger & the ground. over time, the repetitive stress of this action would stretch the bunny-killers' tendons out tremendously, thereby rendering them pretty useless if one such individual wished to hold objects with the hand.

i think we all know what the lesson is here, don't we?
