so j & i started italian last night--what fun! our teacher is this lovely woman in her late 60s/early 70s who is charming, funny, a tad absent-minded, proud of her heritage, and yes, you guessed it, italian. we kind of made an entrance, walking in late by about 10 minutes, but for us, that's not bad. I had an Italian boss for 2 yrs and learnt cusswords and had 2 German coworkers who taught me German no-nos.. :) All other Italian that I am familiar with comes from watching the food network, also from living in NYC for a while (back to cusswords). So while i can be really offensive in many languages, I don't think I can carry on a conversation in those .. anyway once I let my words loose, noone will want to converse with me. Good luck on your Italian.

see, that's where i think you're wrong. if you know all the taboo words, and nothing but the taboo words, i think scads of people are going to want to talk to you! think of how lively & colorful you will appear to be...

Si tolga e pantaloni!

I tried to teach myself Italian one summer from a set of tapes and a phrasebook. All I really remember was this one phrase that was supposed to be useful if you went to the doctor's office (though I think it's pretty generally useful): Take off your pants.

You're learning Italian? That's SO cool. It's something I've wanted to do for a while now.
