Lovely afternoon yesterday, seeing Coraline with lnghnds, Gill, psybelle and resonant_wave.  Its worth a second viewing; I may even be up for a third.  Afterwards psybelle and rw and I went to Samovar, and there was excellent tea, and cheese, and  interesting conversations about mirror neurons, what constitutes social awkwardness, sewing,  and ( Read more... )

A yoga teacher once told me that R/L differences in poses can be affected by R/L brain hemisphere dominance differences, and that goes in 90 min cycles. Whaddya think of that?

sure. that sounds plausible, somewhat. i'm not completely clear on how the wiring works - i think its not as simple as "right body / left brain," but there's some of that. 90 min cycles? not convinced w/o evidence, but it soudns pretty.

i think few of us are really symetrical, physicaly or otherwise, after a couple of decades walking around.

We are asymetrical for sure. Iyengar makes that really apparent to me in my own body.

The 90 minute cycle corresponds to the 90 minute chunks that most people apparently sleep in. And it's just a tiny R/L balance shift anyway.

I'm sure you are right. The whole brain is working all the time, and has a nice fat connection in the middle, so how could it be simple?

But maybe hemisphere dominance is a factor in yoga. Who knows? Hey, that would make an interesting study...
