1.  Seven years ago I ran a marathon.  You want intense experience?  Work up to it steadily, then pass the twenty mile marker for the first time.  Don't ever use an ipod.  Just teach your brain the discipline of how it feels to go. One. Step. At. A. Time.  Then after you pass the 20 mile, you keep going until you think you can't, and then its done ( Read more... )

Hmmm. Wednesday evening might be open for me! I've already got Sunday plans, sadly.

That's so amazing about the marathon. I'm kinda feeling that way as I'm working on the PhD. Yesterday, I actually wondered if I'd feel a bit sad when I'm finished. I know I'll feel proud--I've spent 10 years laboring toward that b****, but I might actually mourn the passing of a huge part of my life and the training that's gone into it. I think pushing yourself like that, in any way, is pretty amazing and definitely makes you feel alive.

Even though I've never run a marathon, I had to hang up my jogging shoes officially about 3 summers ago. I was having all kinds of knee pain and sounding like a beat box myself. I've discovered the rowing machine and have even tricked out my bike for intense city riding, which is cool. I'll always miss the jogging, though.

TEN YEARS?

Holy cow. That's amazing. I cannot imagine that.

I miss the simplicity of running, but yoga fills that niche for me too.

Well, technically I only just started the writing process last month. But I declared my path of study my sophomore year of undergrad, and it’s been almost 10 years since that fateful day. Wow. Pretty much since then I’ve only studied languages and lit. It’s gonna feel so weird when it’s done. I mean, it’s never “done,” but that degree is sure going to mean a lot to me.

I love yoga too. I’m eager to get back to Wild Lotus Studios in New Orleans. Haven’t found anyplace like that over here-but then again prices and severe urban crowding have deterred me from classes.
