Awh, yay! I remember the hippo well :) I think all of my artwork from Mrs. Richmond's class is gone. I know all of my childhood works were downstairs, as well as the baby feet and a few other things from high school. Bleh.
When you were talking about cataloguing everything that was down there, I started thinking about it all...and then I had to stop. That keeps happening when I think about Rene's and Tish's and my dad's houses, too. Think, stop. Thiiiink, STOP. Think, STOP. :-/
Praise God! There are so many wonderful things like that in the midst of this tradgedy. I, too, remember hearing tell of this marvelous hippo, and I think I saw it once.
It was such cool symbolism that the lighthouse survived. To see that strong pillar of white standing straight and tall in the middle of all that wreckage was simply amazing and just spoke to me of the power of hope and of God.
Yeah, the lighthouse was awesome. Somehow, though, I never wondered if it would be there. Just assumed it would be, although it's still crazy that it made it when so much (farther away from the beach, even) didn't.
I need a picture of the hippo -- it will be my "survival" icon. Yay, purple hippo!!
i talked to you on the phone not long ago. that strange number you saw and called back was mine. i guess my sister (Laura Greer) is friends with you sister and i let your mom? use my phone when we were delivering water and ice to people down there and she left a message for you. i would have talked longer but cell phone usage was extemely limited while i was there.
Yeah, I knew it was you when I called you back and you said who it was. I know Laura is friends with Rachael and I remember you (and Molly) from high school. I read Molly's LJ, too. :)
Thank you so much for helping my family and letting my mom use your phone.
