Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica

I just finished watching the first three episodes of Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica after seeing several people keyboard smash over it.

And, w-well.

I-- I pretty much immediately hit up Pixiv to go find all the fanart I could because a;slkdjfal;kjzlksjas oh my god this show is kind of amazing.

So... this sounds pretty awesome.

My suspicion is that you probably need a basic fondness for magical girl types of stories in the first place (if, for no other reason, than to get through the first two episodes) but I think it's worth the payoff. And I thought episode three was indeed awesome.

Oh that's not a problem! Sailor Moon was my first anime, so an affection for magical girls is part of my childhood.

It always heartens me to hear that there are still magical girl fans around because asdl;kjaslkj girls in pretty costumes saving the world! WHAT IS NOT TO LOVE ABOUT THIS GENRE?

Granted, I still haven't watched anything else from the last couple of seasons (Star Driver seems like it's getting a lot of art on Pixiv and I'm trying to be hopeful about the Beelzebub anime) but I never expected to get something like this! I am almost afraid to have too many expectations (which is what let me down with AngelBeats!, I think) but... IT HAS SO MUCH POTENTIAL--!!

Oh, man, I love Pixiv, but I fear I'm going to run into the same problem I had with Panty & Stocking-- a ton of seriously amazing art, but hardly any one artist who did more than one or two images. It's hard to do recs when there's only one image to recommend! I know it's only been two/three weeks (and episode three really kicked things into gear) but I JUST WANT TO SHARE THE LOVE, YOU GUYS. (Knowing me, I'll probably end up doing recs on tumblr or something.)

I am totally with you on the needing more Mami/Madoka NAO PLZ. Though, I'm not opposed to Homura/Madoka, either. And I wouldn't mind a few cute Sayaka/Madoka images, either. >_>

I watch this anime too! The art is so gorgeous! *_____________* I especially like the way they draw the eyes.
Mami's death really came out of nowhere! I didn't expect that since I see her in the OP sequence and thought that she'd stick out until the end of the series. TwT And for a magical girl series, this one is too depressing but I am enjoying it anyway. :D

The quality often sneaks up on me and surprises me at times, because Madoka herself often looks very cheaply done. But Mami! Oh, she's so lovely and then the animation (even as weird as it was) during the witch fights! I CANNOT WAIT TO SEE SAYAKA AND MADOKA IN MAGICAL GIRL OUTFITS, TOO!

I'm surprised they killed Mami off so soon, too, but I think that waiting much longer than they did would have changed the tone of the series? It seems like they're going for something dark here, rather than cute and fluffy. We had just enough time to get attached to Mami, then she was taken away, and just. a s;dlkfjalsk as hard as it was, I thought they did it kind of brilliantly. ;___;♥

dfghjkl yes! especially the you will stay by my side? conversation she had with Madoka before she got killed. SADFACE. I want to see Madoka and Sayaka's transformation sequence too because I am such a sucker for that! XD the witch fights are total eyecandy ♥ sometimes I think they look like tokidoki patterns.

a;lsdkjfalksj, like, I understood why they had to put that conversation in and it's what made the episode so good, but MY HEART. ;__; The feeling of relief that she wasn't alone anymore, that she would have someone to talk to, someone she could share her tears with, someone who could share the burden and the joys. And then that.

And yesssss. I'm a sucker for a good transformation sequence and battle scenes, so I am v. much looking forward to seeing them! Madoka's outfit in the credits looks SO CUTE already!

I can't say I think it's the MOST AMAZING THING EVARRRRR and a lot definitely depends on your fondness for the mahou shoujo genre as a whole, but after having watched episode 4, it's certainly one I'm genuinely excited about. But it's still early yet and who knows where it could go--good or bad.

That said, I totally recommend it. :Db
