Everyone leaves Jack alone again the following night. This time when he hears the thump of Myfanwy setting down he gets up and goes to his door to meet her.
"We're not doing this again," he says, firmly, with his hands on his hips.
Myfanwy cocks her head and fixes him with a look from one beady eye. Jack points out into the hub. "Out."
She screams. Jack flinches and claps his hands over his ears. "I'll come with you!" He has to shout to be heard of the shriek.
Myfanwy stops. Jack carefully lowers his hands, ready to slap them back if she looks like she's gonna blow.
She turns and shuffles off into the hub. Jack looks back at his desk and his work. She looks back at him. Jack gets a move on and closes the door behind him.
Jack ends up on the couch with a dinosaur head in his lap. He scratches the ... spike thing on the top of her head absently. Her eyes close in what is apparently pleasure.
"Can I at least get a book?" Jack asks. She opens her eyes again. Jack hurriedly retracts the request. "Never mind!"
He goes back to petting her. Her head gradually gets heavier. Jack shifts experimentally. She doesn't object so he stretches out lengthwise along the couch and closes his eyes.
"You tell Ianto about this, and you become a really big bucket of chicken. You hear me?" Jack mumbles.
Myfanway sighs at him.
Then they both fall asleep.
