The reasons I was told the word "picnic" is offensive can be found in the "Example" from this item on snopes.com: http://www.snopes.com/language/offense/picnic.asp

It was the most ridiculous thing that I've heard in a VERY long time!

Oh, and he was totally serious,

Of course, but he countered that he had found other sites that said it wasn't an urban legend. And that he didn't believe it was an urban legend.

He is. He's an unhappy person who has 4 kids with 3 different mothers, has 'adopted' a 5th one, and is about to get into his 3rd marriage. Oh, and it took him 6 years to get promoted to a rank it takes most people only 1 or 2.

At work the other day Ken said, "that project is dead" meaning that it could not move forward because it had no funding. A psycho girl that works for him asked him not to describe his project usung the term "dead" because she knows people who have died and it upsets her to hear the word.

People are very odd!

Wow - "don't use the term dead because (I) know people who have died"?!?!? W. T. F. I think everyone knows someone that has died - the word doesn't bother me in the least!
