hello.

today is the first day of vacation.

you know how if it's 12:45, people say that it's "quarter to one"? well doesn't it go along with that train of thought so say that 12:40 would be a "third to one" and 12:30 "half to one" and so forth? for that matter, why isn't 12:15  "three quarters of one" or "half of a quarter to one"?

I often say things like "quarter of half part 3"

I do it automatically, I guess it's because I think of time in incriments depending on what I have to do next.

for instance, if I have to leave at 10:30 and it is 10 o clock, i might say it is "half of" because that is the time i'm waiting for.

wow, thats kind of dificult to explain without being in person. I found myself making hand gestures while typing this, to try and explain better, but I don't think you can see them from where you are.

hahaha i understand what you're saying, though! like if i'm in a meeting or something and it starts at 3:30 and 10 minutes into it someone asks me what time it is, sometimes i'll say "10 past" because i felt like time started when the meeting started.

hahaha. and the hand gestures were a nice thought, although a bit impractical. =P
