Hotch is fighting for his life. Fighting for every breath he takes, fighting to stay conscious, fighting to live.
There’s something in that fight, even with all the blood and pain and horror, that’s beautiful and speaks profoundly of the man Hotch is.
“Come on, Hotch. Stay with me.” He swipes his hair out of his eyes with his free hand.
“Not going anywhere.” The words come out through teeth clenched against pain, and Hotch opens his eyes. The look in them is simple, steadfast refusal to give in.
Reid doesn’t even realize when he starts to cry.
Hotch does.
