Mmmmm, that sounds and looks delicious! I do love salmon (Kelly not so much). The only fish I don't really care for is -- are you sitting down with a fan, Becky, in case you are overcome? -- catfish. There's just something about the squishy texture.
I had basil, lemon balm and chocolate mint growing two years ago, in containers, that seeded themselves and grew again last summer. I'm hoping they will continue this year too.
It is difficult for me to imagine living through what's going on in parts of Japan right now. (And did I hear Glenn Beck made some stupid joke about it?) So much of what we have is so easily taken for granted: running water, electricity, a place to sleep at night. It'll be a long road to recovery, I think.
Oh, I look at footage of the devastation and it seems so overwhelming. But somehow, we do dig out, clean up, rebuild. At least in countries like Japan and the U.S., or New Zealand, where there's some capital and infrastructure to start with. In a poor country like Haiti--it doesn't bear thinking about.
Since I have you here, can I just say how much it infuriates me when people complain about the U.S. helping provide aid to other countries? THEY OFFER TO HELP US, TOO. We usually turn down offers of aid after our disasters, because we have the resources to take care of ourselves. But we are part of a globe, and it touches me enormously to see our service people and their rescue and recovery teams, including dogs, going to help. We are good people; that's why we do it.
After Haiti, I cried and cried when I read about how Haitians sent monetary aid to the Gulf Coast after Katrina. They have so little, but they have hearts. And if we lose our hearts, we may as well just close up shop as a nation.
Love fish! Yes, a plate please! And, yes, Japan! Horrifying! I can only begin to imagine. We've had some bad storms here, but nothing like that. 2004-2005?

Yeah, I've had as much hurricane action as I want to here in Houston--but NOTHING like what has been suffered in these earthquake-ravaged countries.
