What do you say to a person that says "You're so tall"? I mean, it's not really a compliment, it's just a statement. It's like going up to someone and saying "You have blond hair." How do you respond? "I know, thanks" or "...Yep?" Once I opted for "Yeah, I try" but it sounded way too sarcastic. Usually I don't say anything. I just let my statuesque ( Read more... )

This has almost nothing to do with this, but it made me think of this -

I never know how to respond when people tell me that my dogs are beautiful. "I know" sounds persnickety, and "Thanks" doesn't really fit, because it's not like I made them myself.

This is one of the best little blogs I've read. Your beauty does speak for itself. As a fellow tallite, I too have people making blunt observations on my height. When I was younger, I used to say,

"Yes. Puberty really hit me hard."

But I found after a while that it lacked tact and usually people looked at me disgusted. Old folks do not want to hear about youth blossoming into a flower apparently. My new steadfast comment that seems to work well is:

"Thanks, although I can't take all the credit. It was mostly my parents."

I'm pretty sure the " I try" has come out of my mouth as well.
I've also said "I'm sorry"...which leads to confusion on both parts

I used to get that all time, with, "Your hair is so long." Eventually I cut it. I don't think that will work for you here.
