Especially since Gundams (and Zakus, and all the rest) are akin to the inside of a 1960's hot-roddded Chevy: pistons pumpin, seat belts, pedals--I think the display is the most sophisticated item there (assuming we leave out the radiation fields the Newtypes produce and that the robots use to zip around), and for years I've been waiting for one with fuzzy dice and a bobble-headed wiener dog doll in the back.
You want the idea? You can have it: it's not one that I could make use of--not my style. (Brings to mind David Gerrold's old joke about Ellison having had the rights from "The SF Plot Book" to Stranger in a Strange Land for three years and then trading it off to Heinlein when he realized it wouldn't work for him.) It would have been fun to see what Sheckley could have done with it.
